Clay has been used on skin for thousands of years. No special tools. No complicated steps. Just clay, water, and a few minutes of quiet.
Here is how to do it properly.
Step 1: Choose your clay
Different clays do different things. A quick guide:
- Green clay: deep cleanse, oily or acne skin
- Red clay: radiance and glow, normal to dry skin
- Yellow clay: gentle care, sensitive or mature skin
- White clay: ultra mild, works for everyone including beginners
Not sure which one? Start with white. You cannot go wrong.
Step 2: Mix it
Put one or two tablespoons of clay powder into a small bowl. Use a non-metal spoon (clay and metal react, plastic or wood only).
Add your liquid little by little:
- Plain water: neutral, works for all skin types
- Rose water: calming, great for sensitive skin
- Apple cider vinegar (diluted): extra deep cleanse for oily skin
- Aloe vera gel: soothing and hydrating
Mix until you have a smooth, spreadable paste. Not too thick, not too runny. Think yogurt consistency.
Step 3: Apply
Clean your face first. Apply the paste with your fingers or a brush in gentle, even strokes. Avoid the eye area.
Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. You will feel it tighten slightly, that is normal. If it starts to feel uncomfortable, rinse sooner.
Step 4: Rinse
Use lukewarm water and gentle circular motions. Do not scrub. Pat your face dry with a soft towel.
Follow with your usual moisturizer, clay masks work best when you hydrate after.
How often?
Oily skin: up to twice a week.
Normal skin: once a week.
Dry or sensitive skin: every 10 to 14 days.
Less is more. Clay is powerful. Give your skin time to respond.
